How to remove wine stains after parties?

How to remove wine stains is a recurring question at ceremonies, events and celebrations. Truth be told, who hasn't spilt a glass of wine on the tablecloth, shirt, trousers or even the sofa during a party?

Here are some tricks for removing this type of stain.

5 tips on how to remove wine stains

Wine is one of the substances that can cause stains that are difficult to remove from clothes. Acting quickly is crucial, otherwise removing them can become difficult or even impossible.

  1. Absorb excess liquid
Firstly, and as soon as you spill the wine, the most important thing is to try to absorb as much liquid as possible. It's essential that you do this before the stain dries. You can use a napkin or tissue paper, pressing against the stained fabric to absorb the excess wine. Above all, don't rub - this will only cause the stain to spread throughout the fabric.
  2. Apply a stain remover
One of the most effective measures is to use a specific stain removal product. Apply the stain remover to the stained, still damp fabric, following the product's instructions for use. Then wash the garment in the washing machine with a high-quality detergent, bearing in mind that you shouldn't use a temperature higher than 30 degrees as this can cause the stain to grow. Before drying, make sure that the stain has come out completely.
  3. Using dishwashing detergent and hydrogen peroxide
Use two parts hydrogen peroxide to each part detergent and apply this mixture to the garment. In principle, you should see the wine stain disappear immediately.
  4. Mix white wine vinegar and laundry detergent
Another trick is to cover the stain with white wine vinegar and rub the stain with laundry detergent. Once this is done, simply rinse with hot water and the stain will be gone.
  5. Use salt and lemon
You can also try the salt and lemon technique. Start by soaking the fabric in cold water and remove the excess water. Then add a little lemon juice and apply a good amount of salt to the stain. Rinse everything to remove the lemon and salt - repeat the process as many times as necessary until the stain is gone.
